HOW-TO'S, HAULS, FASHION & GURUS

Alright, so I've never liked the term 'guru' or 'beauty guru' when used to describe a fashion/beauty vlogger, unless of course they're professionally a makeup artist or designer. However, since around the start of December, I've almost grown obsessed with watching Youtube fashion vlogs. Now, a fashion vlog is a place where bloggers document fashion and makeup hauls, beauty and fashion tips and beauty routines. It's almost inexplicable as to why I've become interested in watching so many, as I don't really like being instructed or, really, told what to do. Nevertheless, since I found sototallyvlog on Youtube, I've been watching just about non-stop.

I don't know whether it's because I'm interested in the tips, or whether I just like seeing what other people have - but it's made me want to start my own. I did consider it, until I realised I neither have enough money to do hauls nor am I photogenic. The thing that strikes me most is how many there are but, as with everything, I was more drawn by the vloggers of London as opposed to those of the US and in my tireless search (it wasn't really much of a search), I found sototallyvlog, beautycrush and shirleybeniang to be my utmost favourites. I mean, I literally would watch their videos for hours. I'm inexplicably fascinated by them.

The above is a sototallyvlog video, whose Tumblr is Fashion Filth. I just feel like I can relate to the London bloggers to a greater extent, and London bloggers have a more unique style and approach, which I enjoy above the likes of andreaschoice and the dubious allthatglitters21. Although, check them all out.

This is very unlike me, as I don't really praise or promote people uneccessarily, but I'm really struck about how enamoured I've become with viewing all these fashion vlogs, and how they've actually caused me to be more interested in beauty (not neccessarily fashion) than I already was. It actually made me go out and buy my very first M.A.C product recently, which I'll be showing/writing a bit about in an upcoming post.I've decided to do a mini haul of my own in the aforementioned post. You can relax though, there won't be any videos.

I've taken down my preview, as I concluded that it looked tacky - and, I've also concluded that is is unlikely I'll put up my 'hauls' any time soon.

Although, still debating as to whether I should do some photo how-to's in the future.

THE FISHTAIL PLAIT

So, the fishtail plait. I've been fascinated by these since I first saw them - perhaps at the beginning of this year. And I've toiled over the idea that I'd never be able to achieve it. But it's an incredibly easy look to recreate and manipulate. And here's my quick (mirrorless) version :)

In my opinion, they look much better done with straight hair so I think I'll definitely be attempting more of these with different hairstyles.

1. tie the hair into a ponytail, and then separate pony into two equal parts.
2. once pulled separate, section one of the parts
3. pull that section (which should be about one third of the part you removed it from) and join it to the second part.
*the section should now cross over the part you removed it from, as it joins the second part*
4. pull the parts away from one another to tighten the cross-over.
5. now, repeat 1-3 on the opposite part.
6. widen the braid by stretching across, all down the plait (where you want the plait to be wider).
*tighten (step 4) after every cross-over, and use a tail comb or your fingers to gently pull out strands to create a more fly-away look*
tip| just widen the middle or top of the plait and to make the look more 'fishtail'.

And there is my badly explained how-to on the fishtail braid. Painfully easy.

HIT ME

I finally watched Thirteen the other day. I feel like I could watch it over and over.
Delightfully awkward when Tracy's brother mistakes her for a prostitute.

THE POGUES, AND SHIT

Yay for slow internet.
I haven't posted in just a bit. Sometimes things gain and lose appeal with me quite erratically and regularly, I don't know whether that's something to do with my state of mind or not. But yeah, so I'm kind of back on here. I started off with wanting this to be a post on what I've 'been up to' the past few weeks, but I have the memory of a demented fish lately, so I'll probably do updates in the form of picture posts, over the next few days. Mostly gig photos, because I went to a couple of pretty sick gigs - and gigs are pretty much the only places I take my camera nowadays. Until, of course I get my baby (my DSLR), which I've - rather overzealously - put on my Christmas list. In all fairness, it's been on my Christmas and birthday lists for more years than I can remember.

So, it's the Christmas holiday, and it's come around earlier than I thought. All of a sudden, I'm brimming with Christmas cheer and I'm actually excited - especially as my living room is the most beautiful, sparkly Christmassy thing ever.

I thought I'd be all organised this year but, of course, I'm still yet to complete my Christmas shopping. Also, it's slowly dawning on me how much revision I have to get through before my January exams. And I have the crippling feeling I'll be spending boxing day atop a pile of textbooks. Lord help me. And, on top of all that, I've come to the realisation that I can't even get excited about the post-Christmas sales due to the fact that I have about five quid in my account. In fact, I had a mini breakdown the other day, and concluded there and then that David Cameron has single-handedly ruined my life

But apart from all that, I'm liking the global warming, the Christmas cheer, and the smell of seasoning in my kitchen. Here's to Christmas 2010 being the best one yet.

I feel like there should be a picture here.

MOTORCYCLE EMPTINESS: MANIC STREET PREACHERS

Was listening to this just a while ago. Listen to it too.

WISHING ON A STAR

It's still snowing, it's still cold, and it's still white. I shan't complain, as I've had the whole week off due to the 'inclement weather'. If ever there were such a thing as a 'snow week', it's this. I mean, it's practically the Christmas holidays, right! I don't think I've been keeping track of how quickly the days, weeks and months have been passing, considering the fact that I've hardly even thought about my winter wardrobe. Being penniless is all it's cracked up to be, and more. ugh.

My winter wishlist - as of now - isn't great, but if I delve deeper, I'm certain I'll have a list as long as my arm. For now, I'll consider the essentials. Times are hard.
Okay, well these aren't huge essentials - but they may aswell be.

The prime item which caught, and has continued to catch my eye recently is the Adidas Originals by Originals Jeremy Scott Jewelled Sweater, at approximately £130. There is absolutely nothing I don't like about it, perhaps apart from the price. It's such a cute winter piece, and it just looks quite snuggly.

The torrential blizzards we in London have been subject to have made me consider my ~unquestionable~ need for fashionable wellington boots. Since the festival season, the Studded Hunter Wellies have been high on some immaterial list of items I could never afford. Nothing has changed since then in that, at £119.99, I still can't afford them - however, they are classy and practical as fuck. In my search for those, I stumbled across a variation on the studded Hunter boot, with lace and ring detail. Both as beautiful, and unaffordable as each other.

Rather than a fur-lined, fur-collared jacket, couldn't you just team a plain coat with a fur scarf? I'm unsure as to why I've never owned a fur scarf, because I don't see why I shouldn't. This H&M Faux Fur Tube Scarf is both practical and affordable - at £12.99, it looks incredibly warm and versatile as a piece you could use to adorn any outfit.

I'm suprised there isn't more sheepskin on this mini-list, because sheepskin-trimmed anything is my absolute love of the season. I currently have two sheepskin lined shoes that I regularly wear, and my sheepskin collar aviator jacket - so, needless to say, I'm always on the lookout for more. The only problem is that sheepskin - unlike fur - can't be used to trim all items, and wouldn't look great as a standalone fabric, which is a shame as far as I'm concerned. But I found this sheepskin-lined lovely, from Topshop. At £50, it's well out of my price range, but this Sheepskin and Leather Trapper is a great take on the conventional all over fur trapper, as it can be turned up to create a bold and classic black and white contrast or can be turned and toned down so that the white sheepskin just frames the face.

The final item on this list is a simple fingerless glove. I've lost all the wearable pairs of gloves I've ever had. So, I've decided to try and keep to the cheapest and most wearable pair I can find. Primark it is.

T,
