Gah, I haven't posted since before the new year. Not for any particular reason, just because my blogspot is kind of shit. It's interesting how the last time I posted, I was thinking about finally purchasing a fur jacket. Now, I'm having to put all these lovely, warm, layer-y winter clothes away and thinking about tees and maxi dresses. I won't lie, I'm not that good at dressing for weather - but in my defence the bloody British weather took me by suprise.
The long, summery days we Londoners have been enjoying the past couple of weeks got me thinking about how I'm going to plan my Spring/Summer wardrobe (and boy do I need planning, seeing as most of my wardrobe is black, woolly, and tights).
I won't neccessarily do a WishList, but I'll post a series of entries on my kind of 'essentials' for the warmer weather - and the sort of items I'm hoping to get my hands on.
This will be the first 'installment'.

i. maxi dresses and skirts

They've been relatively prominent on the SS11 runway - as seen in the above collage of Acne and ChloƩ Spring/Summer runway looks (among many others). I'd always liked the idea of wearing maxi dresses, but have never found the right fit. This was until I bought one off Asos and have basically been wearing it to every occasion ever since. The reason I'd never bought a maxi dress in the past but regularly wear one now is the fact that I'm now more clued up on the styles that don't suit me. The majority of the maxi dresses on the high street are the flowery/beach print empire line synched in under the bust flows out over the stomach type of dresses. Those are perhaps the least flattering dresses I will ever come across, and they scared me off wearing maxi dresses for a while.
About a month ago, I purchased this Mesh Neck Long Sleeve Maxi Dress, and when it arrived it was among the best fitting items I owned. From then on, I'd become obsessed with tube/bodycon fit maxi dresses that skim over the body while narrowing at the legs - as they give an absolutely lovely silhouette. Don't be weary of the bodycon fit, as maxi dresses will skim a little looser (just for functionality) and shouldn't cling to any wobbly bits. The dress above cost me under £20 with p&p.

The above is a small collection of maxi dresses in the Asos online store, all under £30. I'm hoping to buy as many maxi dresses/skirts as I can get my hands on (seeing as I plan to live in them all spring and summer) - so I'll keep you posted on any new buys.
